Some years ago I read a book called A Moment on The Earth (The Coming Age of Environmental Optimism) by Gregg Easterbrook. Any one else, comments, thoughts, have I opened a can of worms?

I don't think so Yve, but then I haven't read it...yet! Sounds an intriguing book by the title though. Philosophical I presume?

Well, here is are quotes from the back cover:
"Planet Eart Is Alive and Well" - "It is commonly believed that nature is in decline and that we're on an endless downward slope toward oblivion. Yet in this provocative, groundbreaking book, GE charts a new course toward the positive in environmental thinking." "Challenging the orthodoxy of current eco-thinking, GE espouses the beliefs that people, machines, and nature can learn to work together for each other's benefit; that pollution is almost over in the Western World; that a truly 'green' future is coming; and that soon, we will all be ecological optimists."
