Had my 2nd ever Siskin visit the garden this week! It was really early in the morning (dark skies and no coffee) but I still managed a quick snap through the kitchen window. I've also had Blue, Coal and Great tits checking out the nest box, so my fingers and toes are now tightly crossed.

Nice photos, Dave!

It's good to see you've all been enjoying your yards while I've been too busy at work to pay much attention to birds. Work's easing up now, though, and I managed an hour in the yard this morning. There was lots of activity.

I thought all our winter visitors had left but we still have a couple of Yellow-rumped Warblers, a few Cedar Waxwings and a solitary Chipping Sparrow.

A welcome visitor today was an American Robin. They're common here but rarely pop in to our yards.

I've noticed quite a lot of hawks around our neighborhood lately - Cooper's, Sharp-shinned, Red-shouldered and Red-tailed. So I wasn't surprised to see a Red-tailed circling over our house.

I'm hoping for a bit more free time next week. Then, the week after that, it's spring break - a whole week off. Not sure what we'll do then. Maybe a couple of days at the coast or perhaps a couple up in the hill country.

First one this year

Just had my first Yellowhammer feeding on the ground feeder, One more to add to my growing list:t::t:

Wow ! look what stopped by this morning ....a very nice Blackcap , our first ever.
I was trying out a new Tele from the bathroom window and nearly dropped everything into the sink in my haste to get a shot.

I knew it was uncommon as i didn't have a clue what it was so I was very excited. Looked through my garden bird book quickly and didn't see it . ? Looked in my Collins and sure enough there he was Blackcap :t:

A bulky wobbler (my Wife read aloud) err I think thats warbler :-O Mostly migrants but some 2000 winter in British Isles.

Chuffed to bits ...what a fantastic start to the year.http://www.flickr.com/photos/57957957@N08/5497235722/

can't seem to insert a flckr image for some reason ?

great picture EB :t:

went very quiet this afternoon, this is why:

That's a familiar common thing around my feeder too. It's sometimes all very still and I know that they were spooked by my resident coopers hawk.

Sometimes he just sits right there by the feeder. This was taken earlier in the winter out my window.

Nothing particularly interesting at my feeder today but around the yard and the neighborhood I'm hearing increased bird song as spring approaches. The Chickadee is doing his springtime song and I'm hearing the drummers in the woods.

A lovely bird to see in your garden. I had one a few weeks ago but it didn't stay long enough to photograph. Still the latest garden species on my list.:t:
