Nikon Mirrorless cameras (2 Viewers)

I've just got back from a trip to Chicago and New York. Caught the last of the autumn colors with the V1 and the 10 - 30 mm lens. These were taken in Chicago and processed from the Raw.

Has anybody tried this series of cameras with "normal" Nikon tele-lenses yet e.g. 300mm f2.8 or 70-200 f2.8...?
Could be interesting for bird photography.

We are all waiting for this but the adapter is not available yet. Maybe January 2012?

While I was in Chicago I came across one of the last high street camera stores - A Ritz, which my wife allowed me to visit, much to my surprise. They told me they they still have over 300 stores around the US but I hadn't seen one for a while.
As they had the Nikon V1 10/2.8 lens in stock I took the opportunity to support the local stores and bought it. It was a white one and I have a black body. Interesting look.
Here are some photos taken in New York with it at iso 100 and processed from Raw.
Neil
ps I'm looking forward to try it out for digiscoping soon.

Does the V1 EVF black out in burst mode? Can it track birds in flight?
Thanks
Sean

Sean,
It depends which burst mode you use. There is 5,10,30,60 frames per seconds. At the faster rates it's all over in one second. At 10 fps you can track the bird if it flies in a straight line or predictable line. I tracked an egret for about 20 frames but the AF tended to wander a bit so they weren't all in focus.
I can't do this with any other camera I have .

Images taken with FT1 adaptor and 70-200, and 400/2.8 showing on DPR and FredM, also WHE have FT1 in stock, for those who have an interest.

Nikon 1 + FT1 + 400 /f2.8 :eek!:
That's just about as killer a high blazingly speed super tele rig as you can concoct!! :smoke:
Had a cursory peruse of those sites but couln't readily find.....

Any chance you could post the direct page links here?? :h?:
Thanks :t:

The FT1 adapter is available in EU now:

Curious to see results with prime tele lenses!

Hmmmm....This page states
"Autofocusing is possible when AF-S lenses are used. However, focus mode must be set to AF-S (Single AF) and AF-area mode is fixed at Single-point with only the center focus point used"....

Anyone with any BIF comment or experience with this??

Cheers - Chosun :gh:

Here is my test result from this morning with a J1 + FT1 + 300mm f4.

Here is my test result from this morning with a J1 + FT1 + 300mm f4.

The picture quality looks good, are they cropped at all ?
It would be interesting to see a side by side comparison with an FX and DX body to see the scale of sensor crop.
Thanks for posting them. Dave

PS You can't be that impressed I see you have the body for sale !

This would not be very suitable for flight shots but would be good for video and birds on the ground/perches.
Neil.

I was gonna buy a V1 and FT1 setup last week before I read about the AF single and single point focussing on Nikon Rumors. I think if I want something too good to be true I should wait for new DX announcements.

I guess its also impossible to handhold a V1 with 300f4 without an appropriate support. I wouldn't hang it around my neck.

All that said, Wengchun's samples look pretty good to me. Thanks for those!

Stoop,
I'm planning to use it with the 70-200/2.8 for stills and video as a companion to my digiscoping gear.
Neil.

i think it would be wiser to attached with a (max) 200mm lens if you want to hand held the camera. my photos were taken with the lens mounted on my usual manfrotto 701 videohead (for digiscoping).

i agree with neil, it will also be useful for video when attached the J1/V1 with a 300mm.

will try to do more test next week during guiding and post them on this thread for sharing and comments. by the way the earlier photos were cropped.
