Canon SX50 Specs (2 Viewers)

Cash-Back.
Anyone know if Canon have prolonged this after the Spring cash-back end date of 31st May? Just at the point of buying but need to know if the offer is still on. I'll call WEX tomorrow and see but just wondered if anyone knows.
many thanks
RichC

Spoke to WEX this morning, the Canon cash-back seems to have ended:-(!

The slight difference in capacity between the two batteries makes no real difference. Provided the voltages and the dimensions of the two are similar, you should be good to go. I've had good luck thus far with the lower cost batteries as a backup and have learned to always carry some as spares when out. Just make sure all are charged before you go out, they are maybe a bit less good than the Canon branded at charge retention.
Many thanks etudiant, will get it charged up. Could have done with a spare on Saturday when trying to photograph Red Kites at a feeding session! Still a lot to learn about flight photography!

Just a couple of recent snaps to keep things ticking over LOL. Certainly nothing special that' for sure and all taken at 1800mm (full frame equiv) so IQ is suspect due to the digital zoom. But better than nothing though and the extra reach is handy.
Birds are, Dunnock, Linnet,Rock pipit, Shelduck and Stonechat.

Printing SX50 User Manual

Does anyone have any suggestions for printing this manual please. I'd prefer n-up double sided on A4 but my brain must still be fuddled with anaesthetic :-(

You can easily print the whole manual from the CD that comes with the camera - mind you it's listed as 283 pages! There's an option in Adobe Reader to print the whole thing with just a couple of clicks.

A few more butterflies around this morning.

Taken using the 50x zoom and some with the 1.5x converter rather than using the macro setting.

Hence 'n-up' + double sided might be smarter but has eluded me so far :-(

1.5X Converter

I have started to use the 1.5 converter more than the 2X cause I am happier with the image quality, obviously if I try not to use any converter. Took some of a pair of Dartfords on all three today and thought the best was when using the 1.5X converter.
Image not cropped at all just resized for posting, taken from about 20ft.

I'm finding I generally get better results using the 1.5x converter. I pretty much use it all the time now. I think it's remarkable just how much detail it picks up with birds at quite a distance even in dull conditions such as we've had the last two mornings.

You could try "print-my-pdf.com".

My order came back almost by return post, neatly bound, but black and white only. I chose 6"X4" size. It looks like the normal Canon manuals that used to be included with the camera when purchased. Very pleased with it.

I can't read the tiny type in a printed manual. If it doesn't come as a digital file I always go to the manufacturers website to get the PDF version. In fact I almost always get the PDF manual before I buy any electronics to be sure that it will actually do what I think that it should do.

The paper manual usually gets thrown out.

Ah, a belated thank you but I have printed it 2 pages side by side A4 landscape double sided and is nice and easy to read.
I will keep your link for next time though.

What sort of settings are you using for these pics Ian?
Whenever I try to zoom in on flowers/insects the camera won't focus and normally shows a yellow and black warning (I think).
I love the idea of adding photos like this to what this camera does for me.

I've just been leaving the camera set to AV and using exposure compensation, usually -0.66 on a sunny day for insects.

I know what you mean about focus. At 50x zoom minimum focus is 1.3m so if the subject isn't filling the frame I just use the 1.5x converter. I usually approach the insect until the focus in the viewfinder goes soft and then slightly back away and let the autofocus lock.

For flowers I guess you could reduce the zoom and use macro setting instead and get closer to the subject. I've not explored that technique. With insects I usually find they fly off if you try to get too close.

Great shots Ian,going out tomorrow looking for dragonflies so will try "your method" with the 1.5x converter.
