I know what you mean micheal but thats how those of us without radios have to operate! ;)

If you get the tweets of @Spurnbirdobs to come direct to your mobile then it's almost as quick as a radio & doesn't cost very much. Are you saying you can't find your own birds? 8-P

It could simply be a Birdwatching class. I was absolutely fed up on Friday of twitchers interrupting my classes at Spurn to see what we were looking at. Of course when they found out it was only a Redwing they weren't interested. If they saw more than 3 birders gathered together they just assumed we'd found the Dusky Warbler

Fair point. I certainly haven't heard anything locally.

As for "suppressors".........chance in't Dale would be nice!

Had a morning at Potteric Carr today, got to say I was very disappointed to find that you can no longer get a bacon sandwich.

Aye it's noovel quizine down at Potteric now. Can't see why they had to bring that in, what's wrong with a bacon buttie for gods sake, proper fuel for a days birding IMHO

what's the twitter feed for Swilly Chris?

There isnt a specific feed for swilly like at spurn. The regular watchers tweet to communicate sightings amongst the group. Its cheaper and quicker to get tge message out. Keith, I think your folliwing me on twitter, just go through who im following and youll find the main users.

I do have that direct to my mobile but doesnt tend to be much put out during some days on there, word of mouth tends to be far better still. Im not saying that at all, its just easier to figure out whats about by asking people what they are looking at
If I see you at spurn i'll be sure to ask what your looking at! ;)

Thanks for that - I'm now in the loop so should be able to pick up stuff before its too late. I can see this is going to mean I have to take bins and scope to work on a regular basis though.

Went looking for kingfishers today in otley and got great views of an otter in the river wharfe

Whereabouts in Otley was this?? Would be good to get another local Otter (& kingfisher for that matter!!) as I'm only down the road in Burley.

PM me if you don't want to put the details on a public forum.

Anyone seen this BNG on Hornsea Mere? Got any pics please?

I gather the reported BNG has been a Slav all along. There are new pics now on Yorkshirebirders facebook page. I've not seen any pics of BNG from here. I think head shape has been used to ID the bird, but this is not a safe way to split the two species as the attached pic of a Slav from a few years ago shows.
