    AIUI, Eclipse is just for ducks post-breeding camouflaged moult to protect them while moulting primaries. Other birds would be in 'transitional' plumage when moulting from summer to winter and vice versa.

    Can someone explain why the gull in 3 and 4 is brown-headed and not black-headed. Don the retained juvenile wing feathers not favour black-headed?

    Common. Would be unusual for Lesser to perch right out in the open like that. Learn the song, find a dense load of brambles with the rattle coming from it and be patient. I've never seen a Spring Lesser Whitethroat I haven't heard first.
