Unidentified Bird Song - Help please !
It could be the Dunnock (Hedge Sparrow). I heard something very much as you described last year and I waited ages until I caught a glimps of the blighter. It came as a surprise to find out the Dunnock had what I presumed is perhaps a warning call but a relief to have eventually identified it.- Henstooth

Is it likely I saw an Osprey in Gravesend today 02/09/2011? It was 17:15 hrs, I looked across towards where the river Thames would be and high in the sky I saw a large raptor. Flycatchers and Beeaters (Menorca)
Been a long time since I have visited the site however I have just come back from holiday in Menorca, Spain. This will have been my 35th (!) visit to the island and I am quite familiar with the birdlife there. This year put me in a bit of a tizz. I have never seen so many spotted flycatchers...- Henstooth

Loads of spotted flycatches in Menorca

Cold Weather: Bird Behaviour
Just been round Crittels Corner Lakes (private fishing and nature reserve) in St Pauls Cray, Orpington, Kent. Very cold here with fresh snow. Not another soul around - no footprints in the snow. A Robin (with a ring on leg) flew straight up to me and sat in a bush beside me. I chanced on an idea...- Henstooth

How do I get an abandoned nestbox back in use?
Hi all, My robin abandoned the nest in a robin box due to a cat attack 4 days ago. She didn't come back so I have removed the three cold eggs. What should I do with the nest material? Do I leave it in or take it out? Naturally I want a new resident. Thanks -
Help to get new residents.
Sorry to say that after several days of not seeing PEG, I bit the bullet and went up close to the nest. Three eggs in total, one perched on the edge of the nest box, the other two burried in the nest material, all cold as stone.:C One of the eggs was cracked and after a little prod, my daughter...- Henstooth

NICE! Problem being inthis case is that the cat will need to go out and I can't hold the owners responsible for a cats instinct. They are lovely people and they do stuff for us. I will just have to come to terms with the episode and HELP THE CAT LEARN again if / when necessary. Thanks for all... -

Oh this cat knew I already hated it. I only had to open the back door for it to scarper but this was at 06:30 hrs and the bloody thing knows no one is around. It knew it was close to a painfull encounter this morning if I had got hold of it. I am not waiting for it to come in on the very rare... -
