who can help me with this one? This moth is found in farm bush/ deteriorated tertiary rainforest.

This moth is found in the east of Sierra Leone West Africa. When seated, the front wing is folded so it looks like a curled up leaf. If you have an idea as to what family or genus this is please reply too everything helps to narrow down the search.

is this a moth or some type of hopper?

This insect is found in the east of Sierra Leone West Africa. Usually I encounter it sitting on less than 1meter from the ground but that maybe coincidence. It seems not to be too particular to specific vegetation as long as there is enough shadow and undergrowth. If this is a moth, I would like...

    Is this a tessman's flycatcher?

Saw this bird in the area near my house in Kwidadu Kono District in the east of Sierra Leone w.Africa. If this is a Tessman's Flycatcher, it is 50-100 km outside its small distribution area in the south-east of Sierra Leone. Who can confirm or come up with a different ID for this bird?

    Is this a moth?

You could be right. The shape is similar to some Cicadellidae, I could not find any pictures of leafhoppers with a fan shaped tail though. Such tails are more something for Cixiidae but then the body shape is completely different. Thanks anyway.

    Is this a moth?

This creature sat on the outside of the window of my livingroom in Kwidadu in the east of Sierra Leone (w. Africa). It is about 8mm. If it is a moth, to what family does it belong? I am well aware of the fact that only about 10% of the African insects have been described so even if you are not...

who can help ID this young bird

Found on the edge of a rice swamp in Kono district in the east of Sierra Leone w. Africa. The behaviour of the birds (4 or 5 in the same shrub) looked like fledglings to me. Beeping a lot as if waiting on feeding.

    Nkulengu Rail

Jan, I fully agree with you. I am in the possession of a Vernacular list of plants in Sierra Leone. There is not a singular tree named after the sound they make (like ratelpopulier in Dutch) yet most are named after properties like 'spoon wood' (different Apocaniceae that have soft wood that is...
