    Low Light Binoculars

Very good advise given here. But IMHO all the expensive 42 mm options have very good coating that make them bright but the objective is still at 42mm which I believe is inadequate for a true low light bin. At most they will be better by say 10-15 minutes than a lesser bin of the same size. For a...

    which mid priced 10x32s?

I think for slightly more than $500 you can easily get a Nikon LX-L 10X32. I own one and absolutely love it. The other bin I own is a Zen Ray 8X43. To my eyes in spite of the smaller exit pupils, the LX-Ls are easier on my eyes than the bigger Zen Rays. They are sharp edge to edge with only a...

    Binoculars directly from china

We all know that some of the best bang for you buck bins are now made in China and I too own one of those but purchased from USA. Now I have an option of ordering directly from China through someone travelling to that country. So can any one guide me to some of the better ones one can buy from...

Tripod and head for PF65 ii

I use a 501 HDV with a feisol 3301 with my 65eda. I believe the 501 is too much head for the 65 and the 701 will be ideal with the light weight feisol.

    Feisol Tripod

Sorry to bump this old thread but i wanted to highlight how good Feisol customer service is: I have a Feisol 3301 and a gitzo 5541. My 3301 was the earliest model and the main frame broke last year which needed a replacement. The new frame is much better with allen screws going in from the side...

PF 65Eda with pentax 8-24 SMC Zoom?

I have both and I have never used the zoom since getting the XW14. The zoom is sharp till about 25-30X but the fov is very narrow. Its also dimmer than the XW14. I also find the ER to be inadequate at mid zooms.

    65ED where to buy?

Got my 65 ED A II in my hands. Its a well made scope and really tiny compared to my 80 ED. Funnily, I don't find so much of a difference in weight as I found in size compared to the 80 ED. The focus knob and the EP locker are a bit stiff but I guess that because its brand new. Will try out with...

    65ED where to buy?

I picked a body only ED IIA from Adorama for about $479 odd plus NJ state tax. Still a lot cheaper than any of the big name online shops. I already have a straight 80ED for shore and grassland birding and it is brilliant with the XW14 and the Baader 17mm. I am going to do some extensive forest...

    tripod without centre column

I have a Feisol 3301 with a manfrotto 501 HD Manfrotto head for my Pentax 80 ED. This light weight tripod (It does not have a centre column) can easily manage this heavy combo and I never need to use my 5541LS even in difficult windy conditions. A Gitzo 3 series IMHO is an over kill for a...

Nikon SE porros: incidence of fungus

SE were on the top of my list when I was shopping around for a bin but seriously if you do a lot of birding in India and stay anywhere near the coast or rainy areas, they will get mold and fungus in them. All my porros have them including the 'water proof claimed' Clestron Ultima DX. Porros are...
