    Gardening for Trinidad birds

Gardens for T&T Not sure what you're asking. List of birds from the Botanical Gardens in Port-of-Spain? Plants that would attract birds if planted in a Trinidad garden? Please clarify.

    Tobago IDs (2)

Tough IDs Though these aren't the best shots, I believe they are 1) Broad-winged Hawk -- light, nearly unmarked underwings and much smaller bill than GBH. Can't quite make out the species in its crop, but that's one happy well-fed hawk 2) Fuscous Flycatcher, for sure. Pale yellowish...

    Birding in Tobago August

You can view a list of species we saw in August 1992 at http://www.birderbill.us/tt_8_92.htm Unfortunately I didn't note in the list which species were seen on which island (only just learning HTML back then), but we usually see about 70 spp. on Tobago and about 175 on Trinidad, with a total of...

    Ivory-billed Woodpecker Re discovered ?

Ivory-billed Woodpecker rediscovered in Arkansas I thought this was a hoax, but it's starting to look more and more like the real thing http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=46500 This Nature Conservancy page is being prepared for tomorrow's announcement...

    Silvered Antbird ?

Yes, indeed -- Ochre-bellied Flycatcher (U.S. birders would like to spell it "Ocher"). I found the former common name to be almost as descriptive -- Pale-bellied Pipromorpha. I'm not a Latin scholar, but I think that the specific name "oleagineus" refers to butter, margarine, or fat of some...

    Most needed field guide?

Most needed field guide I concur completely with you, Niels. When I learned that the current edition of ffrench would be published in a larger format than previously, I urged the publisher to use the extra space to separate confusing species pairs, especially the hummingbirds. Alas, they...

Happy to make your acquaintance, Rashid. Three of my friends bird extensively in your area -- Martyn Kenefick, Courtenay Rooks, and Graham White. If you don't know them, perhaps you could give them a ring and meet them. We're all on the T&T Rare Bird Committee, a motley crew indeed.
