Help with coastal birds winter plumage, UK.

Thank you lou and THE_FERN. On the day there was a flock of about 30 of them. A watcher tried hard to convince me they were grey plovers, but that didn't sit well with me. Thank you too Dawsy, Butty and Rich.

Help with coastal birds winter plumage, UK.

I would be grateful for any opinions as to which species this wader is. Also could anyone tell me if this long-tailed duck is an adult female or a juvenile. Both pics taken from Lindisfarne causeway in November. Thank you.

    Help with Loon/Diver ID, UK.

Thanks ever so much Prestdj and Alexander. It is a nice spot Julie. It was a nice sunny day so I spent the morning just sitting and photographing whatever came by.

I would be grateful for any opinions as to which 'Diver' this is, and whether it is an adult or juvenile. Photographed in Northumberland (Lindisfarne causeway) 17.10.23. Thank you. Roy Waller

Help with seabird plumage - UK.

I would be grateful for any opinions on which species of seagull is shown with the eider. It was taken in November in a harbour in South East Scotland. Adult herring gulls are the most common gull in the harbour, but great and lesser black-backed gulls also occur. Please can anyone tell me if...

Help with plumage please - UK.

My Collins shows the first winter birds having a pink lower mandible, and the supercilium being white in front of the eye and buff behind it. This grey wagtail doesn't have either of those traits. I'm thinking your scenario is very likely. Thank you foresttwitcher for spending some time on this.

Help with plumage please - UK.

Just having another try. I've looked at my ID books and can't figure out the answers. If you can't either then thanks for reading anyway.

Help with plumage please - UK.

I would be grateful for any opinions on these black-tailed godwits regarding plumage: adult/juvenile, male/female, breeding/non-breeding. Photo taken on a salt marsh in South East Scotland 15.10.21. Similarly for the grey wagtail, taken at a freshwater pool in the Scottish Borders...

    A normal Jackdaw UK?

These 2 pics show a Jackdaw darker than I am familiar with. They are probably the same bird, taken within 4 minutes of each other at Musselburgh 23/10/16. Please can I have opinions as to whether it is just a normal jackdaw - Corvus monedula, or is it the darker variety - Corvus monedula...

    Help sexing a UK Wheatear

Please can I have opinions as to whether this is a male or female wheatear. I believe the males do turn a browner colour in late summer. This was taken on the walls of Dunbar Castle 19/9/08. Thanks a lot

Thanks for that last bit Deb. Maybe I did see other males.

Help in sexing a UK wagtail.

Thanks a lot Laurie and Deb. Your opinions are appreciated. I must have visited this spot about 50 times between March and November. If I sat for a while I would always see grey wagtails. The only one I saw with a dark throat was number 1 above. I thought it might be a male, but I wasn't...
