I have seen this method as described by Alexis used by sea watchers, seems to work for them.

    Off to the Algarve!!

Salgados and Quinta do Lagos should be within reach too. Sagres is excellent for the Rib trips for Dolphins and seabirds, you need to book in advance though. The road to Villa de Bispo from Cape St Vincent can be productive for Shrikes and Farm land birds.

On the trail of the Great Grey Shrike

My first thought was Wheatear and then read the other posts. Next thought was "I got that wrong then" without bothering to look at the original photo again.

See what you mean Brian. Just getting over a cataract op and can`t get my glasses changed for another three weeks until my eyes settle down. So thought I had better get a second opinion. Thanks and nice photo.

    Gull I.D. Chew Valley UK.

Could someone confirm that this is a Blackheaded Gull. The head appears Black rather than dark brown and I cannot discern any red on the bill, not sure if it is a trick of the light or not. Taken today at Herriot`s Pool, Chew Valley Lakes.

Delia. If I didn't have photographic evidence I would have to agree that Cetti`s only exist in people`s imagination:t:

    Special day out

A special day out on the Somerset levels today, the first day in over two years that I have not had to contend with poor vision caused by cataracts. I didn't take binoculars as I was not sure how soon after the op it would be safe to use them. First bird of the day was a male Dunnock singing in...

Birding on the Costa del Sol (Malaga)

Really enjoying these reports Luis. Finding them useful for areas we missed on our first visit a couple of years ago. El Torcal is a great place to visit, we were fortunate enough to see Chough, Black Wheatear, Rock Bunting, Griffon Vulture and Ibex on our first visit and will certainly visit...

Cataract in my right eye V's birdwatching optics!

Peewit. I was given the choice longsight or shortsight and chose longsight. So will not need glasses except for reading. Can hardly believe how much my vision has improved already and will certainly follow the instruction to the letter. The only problem now is that I won`t be able to use poor...

Cataract in my right eye V's birdwatching optics!

Finally had the op yesterday and vision already much improved. Can`t wait to get out birdwatching again without the frustration of not being able to locate birds that others can see clearly.
