- Tan lower throat with black spots
- Green legs (but colour does vary)
Distribution
Asia: found only in China
Southeast Asia: Indochina, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 5-7 subspecies[1]:
- T. c. chloropus: Scaly-breasted Partridge
- T. c. peninsularis:
- South-western Thailand
- T. c. tonkinensis:
- Northern Vietnam
- T. c. olivacea:
- T. c. cognacqi:
- Southern Vietnam
- T. c. merlini
- Endemic to interior central Vietnam)
- T. c. vivida
- Coastal hills of central Vietnam
- Coastal hills of central Vietnam
The last two subspecies is often considered a separate, full species: Vietnam Partridge, Arborophila merlini.
Habitat
Evergreen forest, forest edges at heights up to 1400 m.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists of seeds, berries and termites.
