Male

  • Red crown to nape
  • Buffish-brown head (tinged yellow)

Distribution

Asia: found in the lowlands of eastern Burma, adjacent Thailand, northern Laos and Malay Peninsula

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].
This taxon is considered a subspecies of Pale-headed Woodpecker (sensu lato) by some authors[2]

Habitat

Deciduous and evergreen forests with bamboo stands.

Behaviour

Diet

Their main diet consists of ants.
