Saltator atripennis

Identification

Nominate male

  • Black crown (sometimes grey), ear-coverts and malar area
  • Broad white supercilium
  • White patch between ear-coverts and neck

Distribution

South America: found in Colombia and Ecuador.

Habitat

Cloud forest and forest edges. Mature second growth.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet is believed to consist mostly of fruit. They are often seen in mixed species flocks, including Buff-throated Saltator
