[edit] Identification

A medium-sized (18cm, 7in.) tanager. Sexes are alike, with blue cap, dark grey underparts except for yellow crissum, black mask, dark bill and legs. Back and tail are olive.

Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela.

There are 8 subspecies.

Humid forest borders, secondary growth forests, clearings. Both slopes of the Andes between 1800 and 1900m.

[edit] Behaviour

Forages on the edges of forest, making it conspicuous; often in small groups, sometimes mixed with other species.
