Identification
28 - 31.5cm A large, dark laughingthrush:
- Dull ochre-tinged chocolate-brown crown
- Glossy black face and breast
- Pale blue orbital skin
- White patch behind ear-coverts
- Dark tail
Sexes are similar, juveniles undescribed.
Distribution
Endemic to southwest Cambodia.
Seems to be uncommon or scarce and has a tiny range.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
It was formerly considered conspecific with White-necked Laughingthrush.
Habitat
Moist lowland forests and montanes at 500 - 1800m.
Behaviour
Not much known about diet. Feeds presumably on larger invertebrates.
A noisy but shy species. Usually seen in groups of ten or more birds, mostly near the ground foraging in leaf litter. Joins often bird waves.
No information about breeding.
Resident species.
