Genus: Cyanopica
Description
This genus contains only two species, formerly considered conspecific.
The Iberian Magpie in Spain and Portugal was once thought to derive from birds brought by sailors and merchants from Asia. However the differences between the two populations suggest that they have been isolated a long time ago. The findings of fossils of this species at Gibraltar is another proof that the colonization of Europe by this species was not the result of human introduction.
Taxonomy
