Genus: Malacopteron
Description
This genus contains six species of Babblers from SE Asia. They have:
- A rather long bill with an upcurved lower mandible and hook-tipped upper mandible
- Conspicuous rictal bristles
- Small leggs and feet
- The habit of indulging in group songs and much song-duetting
Taxonomy
Malacopteron is a genus in the Family Pellorneidae.
It was formerly included in the family Timaliidae.
One species, the Grey-breasted Babbler, is sometimes placed in its own genus Ophrydornis.
