Genus: Psaltriparus

[edit] Description

This genus contains only one species, the Bushtit from western North America.
It's a tiny, long-tailed bird with a very small bill. The plumage is rather drab.

[edit] Taxonomy

Psaltriparus is a monotypic genus in the family Aegithalidae.
It is the only American member of this family. Results of DNA-DNA hybridization have confirmed the family placement and indicate that the ancestor of Bushtit entred North America 10 - 12 million years ago over the Bering Sea land-bridge.
