There are 2 subspecies[1]:

  • C.t. dichrous:
  • Central and Western Andes of Colombia to Peru (San Martín)
  • C.t. thoracicus:
  • Tropical and subtropical eastern slope of Andes of south-eastern Peru (Huánuco to Puno)

Moist montanes.

This species occurs in social units each consisting of a pair to a family group, which holds a territory they co-operate in defending using song and display.

The diet includes insects.

It builds a dome shaped nest.
