Identification

Distribution

Papua New Guinea and most of the Solomon Islands.

Taxonomy

Subspecies coultasi may be split as "White-gorgeted Fantail", R. coultasi. Other subspecies (albina, cockerelli, floridana, interposita, lavellae, septentrionalis) may be split as "White-winged Fantail", R. cockerelli (strict sense).

  • R. c. interposita: "White-winged Fantail". Solomon Islands (Choiseul and Santa Isabel)
  • R. c. floridana: "White-winged Fantail". Solomon Islands (Florida and Tulagi)
  • R. c. cockerelli: "White-winged Fantail". Solomon Islands (Guadalcanal)
  • R. c. lavellae: "White-winged Fantail". Solomon Islands (Vellalavella and Ranongga)
  • R. c. albina: "White-winged Fantail". Solomon Islands (Kolombangara and Rendova)
  • R. c. coultasi: "White-gorgeted Fantail". Solomon Islands (Malaita)

Habitat

Primary and old-growth secondary forest to about 1,000 m.

Behaviour

The diet includes small insects and invertebrates.
