Distribution
Costa Rica to western Panama in Central America, and separate from that in the Andes from Colombia and Venezuela to Bolivia and just into Argentina
Taxonomy
Formerly considered conspecific with Mexican Violetear under the name Green Violetear.
Subspecies
Three subspecies are recognized[1]:
- C. t. cabanidis:
- Highlands of Costa Rica and western Panama
- C. t. cyanotus:
- C. t. crissalis:
Habitat
Relatively wide options from humid forest and second-growth to coffee plantations and open hillsides with bushes.
Behaviour
Diet
They visit the flowers of a variety of shrubs and herbs.
Vocalisation
Sings while motionless on a high perch.
