About 15 cm
Male:

  • Dark blue upperside except bright blue rump
  • Blackish side of head bordered above with paler blue
  • Rich orange on throat, breast and flanks

Female differs in having brown upperside and sides of head, and rufous rump.

Bornean Blue Flycatcher is usually found at lower elevation than this species.

Distribution

Endemic to Borneo.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

It was previously included in Hill Blue Flycatcher.

Habitat

Usually above 450 m asl in primary and secondary forest.

Behaviour

Catches insects in understory of forests, mainly using sallying for prey.

It builds a small cup nest and lays 2–3 eggs.

Vocalisation

Described as including both melodious and harsh notes.
