Taxonomy
This is a polytypic species[1] consisting of 3 subspecies.
Subspecies
- M. o. facialis:
- Highlands of the Bird's Head, and the southern slope of the highlands east to the Eastern Range), also Waigeo Island
- M. o. becki:
- Northern slope of the western and central highlands, also the northern ranges from the Foja Mountains east to the Huon Peninsula
- M. o. orientalis:
- Mts. of southeastern New Guinea
