Identification

10–11·5 cm (4-4½ in)

  • Greyish-brown overall plumage
  • Yellow rump
  • Pale yellow throat patch
  • White belly
  • Grey sides of face
  • White chin
  • Blackish band runs across the lower neck

Distribution

A restricted range in central Ethiopia.

Status: Classified as Endangered in the 2008 IUCN Red List.2

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].
Placed in genus Serinus by Clements.

Habitat

Semi-arid scrub on rocky hillsides and savanna with scattered trees.

Behaviour

Diet

They forage in long dry grass and low vegetation. They are known to have fed on lavender seeds. There is very little additional information available.

Breeding

The only nest seen was on top of an acacia.
