Overview
This island is just off the west coast of mainland Scotland, now connected to the mainland by a bridge. Lowland habitat is mainly traditional farmland (mostly sheep and Highland cattle), with some Atlantic temperate rainforest oak woods, and a rocky coastline. The higher parts of the island are exceptionally craggy, and very wet (the name 'Skye' derives from Old Norse, "cloudy"), rising to 993 m at Sgurr Alasdair in the Cuillin Hills.
