Item details

This is Kowa's newest and biggest spottingscope introduces at the end of 2007 and widely available since 2008. read every review and you will see that it's a clear winner, at least even with the new Leica Apo Televid 82 and Swarovski ATM 80 HD although their zoom eye pieces have a wider field of view. But in terms of viewing it's the best: bright, razor sharp and very natural colors. The frontlensobjective is made of pure fluorite!

I own the zoom (20x60) and the the 30x wide. This last one is really fanatastic. It's ALWAYS the right eyepiece and I only use the zoom for trying to get a bette rview but most of times I am disappointed because the 30x is the ideal mix of perfect view (sharp etc), FOV and less trouble with fog or heat.

I especially like the double focus knob: the fine focus is so good that I use thatn one the most. The protection of the seperately sold stay on case is great in use and every aspect is tethered with special places to lock the objectiveprotection.

In The Netherlands this scope costs between 1900 and 2500 including the zoom and between 269 and 369 for the 30x Wide angle. I bought mine at Foto Rooijmans in Budel at the lower end of the pricerange :)

I have been using this scope for 6 months now and I think this will be my scope for the next 15 years!!!!!! Before this I used the Nikon ED 82a which was very good with the 30x wide but this Kowa has a much much better zoom and it's overall performance and handling suits me better.

Most reviews of this famous scope are based on the old TE-10Z (20-60x) zoom eyepiece. Make sure to use it with the TE-11WZ (25-60x) wide view zoom oculair or the latest version of this: TE-11 WZ II. Way better!
For a 88mm scope it's very compact and lightweight. Shorter and less weight then the Swarovski and Zeiss 85mm brothers.

Pros
  • Sharp, contrasty, fantastic image - can be used for astronomy too.
Cons
  • Don't like the green color - got the 125th black version
Beautiful scope - every time I look into it, I get the Wow factor. Adapted my astro eyepieces to it - 500mm f5.6 - stretch to get high magnification. Solid M-42 (Orion nebula) views.

Pros
  • Pin sharp, compact for large objective scope, focus system, 1.6 extender unit, quality and fit of stay-on case
Cons
  • None I can think of!
Just brilliant! Also have two Opticron Scopes which are very good too, (particularly MM3 60 GA ED) but not in this league.
