The 3pm Barn Owl A few shots of the 3pm barn owl yesterday. It was carrying a stick around, any thoughts what this is about ? Nest building ?...

Just spotted this thread - I think I am the Ian referred to. Here are a couple of images I captured of the barn owl. It was around for a while and tried to steal a kill from a buzzard on the ground but got a bit duffed up !

Spider near Amy's Marsh At the UW work party on Tuesday we found several large spiders up near Amy's Marsh that no-one seemed to recognise. I took some pics - attached. I think it is the 4-spot orb weaver and it is depressingly common. No doubt someone will correct me if I am wrong

Peregrin perhaps ?? High over the Moors at about 4pm on Wednesday. Is there enough in the pics for an ID. Shots were hand held with the equivalent of a 900mm lens and are heavily cropped - it really was high up - spooked all the "white" birds and caused a mass take off

4 pics from the Flashes yesterday. Grey wagtail, goldfinch and 3 dexters - I hadn't realised the Flashes were so shallow.

I am quite new to this and don't recognise this little chap at Upton Warren this afternoon - any suggestions ?? I presume it is a hen chaffinch - but seemed too bright and colourful for January - and compared the others that were around
