    UK - Two Geese

The first one I think is Greylag? The second one I'll take a guess at Brent, but it lacks the white neck marking that they are meant to have. What do you think?

UK - Merlin or Kestrel or ?

This was a long way away. When I took the photo, I thought it was a Sparrowhawk. When I looked at home and checked the RSPB, I thought it was a Merlin. When I looked at more images, I thought it's possibly a Kestrel. So, which is it do you think?

    UK - Three Birds

I'm hoping for help with these IDs. Could you confirm these, or correct them please? 1. A purple sandpiper? 2. A blue tit? 3. A bullfinch? (This is the ID I'm least happy with)

    UK - Which Pipit?

I think this is a rock pipit I snapped this morning, but is it? What do you think?

Hmm - what are these birds do you think?

    UK - Two Unknown Birds

I had a lovely walk in the countryside today. I'm not sure about a couple of birds I snapped. What do you think they are?

What do you think this little one is?

    UK - Red-Breasted Merganser?

This one was rather far out over the sea. What do you think it is?

    A Surprising Duck

A Surprising Duck (UK) There were Mallards on this stretch of water, and I saw another duck arriving. I'm trying to improve my action shots, so I snapped it, even though it was farther away than ideal. I didn't realise it wasn't a Mallard until I got home. I've checked my RSPB booklet, and I...

    UK Small bird flying overhead

I snapped this bird flying right over my head in low-level morning light, so I'm sorry that the image is a bit noisy - the camera ISO was over 2000. Do you know what it is?

Could you confirm this is a Song Thrush please? UK

I'm pretty sure this is a Song Thrush, but I'd like to be 100%. Is it?

UK Small, Coloured Bird In Flight

I'm not at all sure about this one. What is it do you think?

UK 3x Species Flying Over the Sea (not gulls)

I'm hoping for some help identifying these three species. 1. I'm guessing these are Whooper Swans. 2. Pink Footed Geese? 3 & 4. A Pied Wagtail with an unusually yellow face? What do you think?

A small gull I'm not sure about (UK)

What do you think this is?

    An elegant little bird (UK)

I grabbed this shot when I saw the bird. It was a slim, elegant looking creature, not fully conveyed by the photo. The camera settings weren't what I would have chosen, but by the time I'd adjusted them it had gone. What do you think it is?

    Barnacle Goose plus others UK

A mixed flight of geese - barnacles and another. What are the others do you think? Thanks.

    D7100 - Viewfinder/Monitor

For the sake of efficiency (and because it's much easier in bright conditions) I'd like to view the photos I've taken through the viewfinder and basically switch off the monitor for ever. I've looked in the manual and done an internet search, but I can't find any info. Can it be done?

Can you name this gull? UK

I'm unsure about this one. With the little I know, the colour of the back and the pink legs may suggest a Great Black Backed, but the beak? What do you think?

    Redshank or Spotted Redshank? UK

The first two images are of the same individual bird. The third image is of a different bird. I have them down as Redshanks, but are they?
  22. Mad Scientist

    A Great Black-Backed Gull?

It looked big. Going by what I've learned so far, this is a Great, not a Lesser. What do you think?

    Another spotted flycatcher, or...? UK

I snapped this one quickly. To my untrained eye, it looks similar to the spotted flycatcher I snapped last week. The dark marking at the shoulder gives me doubts about my ID for the bird here. What do you think?

UK unknowns and a strange photo - what's the bird doing?

I think the first is a Great Tit, but could it be a Coal Tit? The second is a juvenile willow warbler, or...? The third I don't know. The fourth is one of the birds that featured in the third photo. What do you think is happening? It looks almost as if it's spitting out the black object - a seed?
