    small flycatcher in Sabah, Borneo

I hadnt thought of the Mugimaki not being there at that time. A young Bornean makes sense as they were in the area (see my other post the same day), so putting it all together it is a better solution than Mugimaki. Thanks everyone for your time and efffort.

another flycatcher from the bornean rainforest

Thanks everyone - I am comfortable with Bornean after seeing your comments. Great place the Kinabatangan, could've stayed for weeks!

    small flycatcher in Sabah, Borneo

Thanks for the replies, the picture was taken last week - mid June. It could have been a youngster - agree that is a possibility. The tail seemed ok for length at the time but the wings looked odd, so that is a possible explanation. Andy

another flycatcher from the bornean rainforest

This one we saw a few times but i was never able to match it exactly with illustrations and descriptions in the field guide. I am thinking Bornean Blue Flycatcher because of the extent of the orange underneath although the guide shows more than the photo does. This bird was in thick forest...

    small flycatcher in Sabah, Borneo

found this small bird that looks like a flycatcher in the forest near the kinabatangan river in sabah, borneo. I am thinking a female mugimaki flycatcher but would value any other opinions. Thanks Andy

Small ground bird from Chiang Dao

We saw this bird in Temple Gully near Chiang Dao. We also saw streaked wren babbler in the same location that was much darker. Thinking buff breasted babbler but would welcome any suggestions. Thanks Andy

    raptor ID Malaysia

Thanks for the ID - makes a lot more sense. My eyes are still blinded from how many times it flew into the sun! A nice small eagle. Cheers.

    raptor ID Malaysia

Taken in Perak, Malaysia near Gerik. This bird was soaring around very unfalconlike, but it looks like a Peregrine, can anyone give positive id? Thanks Rach

    Hornbill ID Perak Malaysia

Saw these flying in the distance earlier today, Belum State Park Perak. Can anyone give a positive id, we are thinking Wreathed or Plain-Pouched, leaning toward Wreathed due to the size but hard to judge as they were quite far away. Cheers Rach

    2 birds from Sri Lanka

Thanks everyone. I guess the prinia is hunched up in the "cold" of the morning! Agree the second one looks like a flowerpecker bill so Legge's or white throated could fit. Maybe a bit out of range? Thanks again. Cheers Andy

    Cuckoo ID Malaysia, Kuala Selangor

Taken at Kuala Selangor last weekend. Juvenile bird, we're debating whether it's a Little Bronze or Violet Cuckoo - any confirmation? I have more images if you need them. Thanks Rach

    Malaysia ID

Sorry Ads, forgot to thank you for your reply. I didn't see any evidence of a crest at the time either. I am almost convinced we have the right bird. Robson says the crest is "short" which helps a bit. Off to Cameron Highlands this weekend, but it is forecast to rain a lot. Better than...

    Malaysia ID

We saw this near KL this past weekend. Thinking it might be a puff-backed bulbul but a bit unsure. No sign of a crest? Any thoughts? Andy & Rach

Dotterel or Knot, Yellowhead or Yellowhammer NZ

That is good to hear. Agree that Ulva Island is a good spot but almost all other places that I used to guarantee to find them they are no longer present (Eglinton Valley, Hawdon and a few others in Fiordland). I have not tried at Haast Pass - good to know. One thing I have found is that if...

Dotterel or Knot, Yellowhead or Yellowhammer NZ

Agree NZ Dotterel. Often called red-breasted dotterel these days but I prefer the former. The bill is chunky like a dotterel and the red colouring does not extend up the chest. Often found on Northland beaches in NZ. I can't make out the yellow bird but I would be suprised if it was a...

    Warbler (?) ID in Malaysia

Thanks everyone, I have learnt a bit from the discussion. Andrea, I think the main reason I only loaded one photo was because it was late for bedtime and I had 3 kids screaming in the background and one in particular lunging repeatedly at the keyboard! It just takes a bit of time to get the...

    Warbler (?) ID in Malaysia

Jane, sorry I can't comment on the primary projection but I am attaching some more photos to see if you can make anything of them. Andrea, thanks for your comments on Arctic v Eastern Crowned. Can you explain more about what you mean regarding the supercilium pattern over the lores. I hope you...

    Warbler (?) ID in Malaysia

Thanks for the replies. Does the lack of a yellow vent rule out eastern crowned? I think I favour arctic at the moment but initially it seemd like our bird was not green like I expected an arctic to be. Any comments on that?
