    Picture Style

    I use the 7D with a 100-400 lens and have always left the camera in standard picture style. Recently I have read suggestions that it is better to place it in neutral if you are keen on PPS - which I have to be considering the standard of my pics! Anyone have any views on this?

    My 40D has packed-up

    My 40D packed up after 3 months and the shutter assembly was replaced. Auto-focus still worked and photos could be taken but no information was available, no screen and no buttons worked Colchester Camera Repairs had it back to me in 5 days! it's been OK for the last 7 months - touch wood!

    My 40D packed in after only a few weeks and the shutter assembly was replaced. Colchester Camera Repairs were excellent returning in less than a week. I made sure I only sent a copy of the receipt as I have a lurking feeling that I may need it again! I'm sure the focus is fractionally sharper...

    Thanks Mark - good to be guided through it so clearly. Have printed a few good ones now - allowing for my standard of photography! Haven't been unchecking sharpening leaving it on low usually, or even medium as I thought further sharpening would be a 'good thing'!!. New Windows Vista set up...

    Did as you suggested K-Lex and got quite a good likeness - perceptual seems better than relative. Can't find the 'view proof colours' and set to CYMK not very good at this high tech stuff!] although I do see the preview before printing which seems to be far brighter than the original! Spyder3...

    Thanks for the advice everyone - was definitely better using Easy print, Christine, and of course a lot easier! I can see a lot of experimentation coming up, possibly my use of cheaper, but heavyweight [240g plus] papers does not help? Anyone like to suggest what they think is the best colour...

    Printing fom 40D delivered to Lightroom 1.4 and then to Photoshop 6. Brand new Canon Pro9000 printer. I have used ICC and all the default programs but none of the colours are anything like the screen [which I know needs calibrating] and are dull and insipid. Same when printing from Lightroom...

    After 2 months of less than intensive photography the shutter had to be replaced [amazingly the camera continued to take pics even though no buttons were working, no menus and no LCD screen!].     New Cashback!

    Just seen that Canon are now doing £100 cashback on the 40D! 7Dayshop have it for £694 so less than £600 now. I think there may be a few glum faces!:C Has anyone purchased from 7Dayshop and got cashback from Canon - just wondered as they are off-shore?

    Thanks all - a cheaper Kenko is on its way and co-incidentally I was able to get a Canon 100-400 more cheaply; it just remains to learn to use them to the standard of the equipment. Pin-taping quality stuff though!!?

    I have just been told by Wharehouse Express that the new canon 1.4 TC preserves autofocus on all the L series lens. Is anyone able to vouch for this before I have one instead of the Kenko?

    Canon 100-400 or Sigma 50-500?

    Camera is 20D to be changed for 40D as soon as I can get my hands on one. Got some nice shots of a Marsh Harrier at WWT Slimbridge today but I always feel the Sigma 50-500 isn't as sharp as I would like - although Lightroom 1.1seems to do the trick!

    I own the latter but need to replace it but am torn between losing focal length and the joys of IS. Bird pics are the main thing. Need to be pushed one way or the other! Anyone like to push!

    3 small white blobs have appeared, and look set to stay, on the LCD screen. What are they and are they dangerous?!! Camera is brand new.
