A day off in Rotterdam next week: Black Woodpecker?

Hello I’ve just realised I’ll have the best part of Wednesday free, based in Rotterdam, next week. Black Woodpecker would be a lifer for me: is this feasible? Where and how (inc by public transport probably) should I go about it? Thanks in advance for all help

Birdguides app does not work with IOS8

All a bit pants. At the very least I expect my subscription renewal to be delayed by the equivalent period of iOS8 being launched and Birdguides' eventual fix. Ho hum.

    Torsby municipality, Varmlands, August: pointless?

Hi I have a week or so with family at their country retreat, a former mission house nr Vagsjofors (excuse missing accents) N of Torsby, where the E45 hangs right. I've seen some decent woodpeckers on the Vagsjofors site list, and also some good birds at Naturreservatet Fänstjärnsskogen which...

I can see why you think that, but the second pic (they're all the same bird) seems to rule that out ...

    Eagle spp? Iraq

Not my photos: from a friend in Iraq. Best he has; all help appreciated. " It was seen in a mountain range north of Erbil, kurdistan. Not as big as a fish eagle If that helps."

    Save Sefyton

It's not Sefton Meadows, nr Lunt, which the local Wildlife Trust are now managing. It's Sefton Park in Liverpool (where I've had Kingfisher and all the decent parkland birds you'd expect.) But yes, it stinks, and along with all the poor planning decisions in Hope Street recently it marks Joe...

where to go in Andalucia when you don't have a car.

Concur with El Rocio as a great centre for pedestrian birding - have been twice previously, and am choosing to go again a fortnight from now even though this time one of he party drives and we'll hire a car. Astute use of the bus will allow you to get to El Acebuche too. And you my just luck...

    Longridge Fell

That's great, I had found the bus to the Halls Arms at Knowle Green that seemed a sensible option for approaching the Newdrop Inn ... And then someone with a Landrover offered to be chauffeur for the day! So we're off first thing. Shrike was seen again at 7.15 tonight so here's hoping

    Longridge Fell

Thanks Frank. This is just what I was looking for as I'm thinking of doing this trip by public transport tomorrow. How arduous was the walk from Longridge, and where did you see the Grouse?

    Any info on Algiers?

Hi Work takes me to Algiers this week; a full-on schedule with just one four hour window to myself (with a driver). Any thoughts or advice on any birding sites I might see in the city or its immediate environs? Shokran

Excellent After Sales Service - CJ's!

Credit where it's due ... We're all used to seeing Swarovski rightfully praised for the quality of their after sales service. I'd like to heap some praise on CJ Wild Bird Food today. I must admit that I don't buy much of my food from them, but over the years have bought over a dozen general seed...
