    New 100 ED spotting scope

When looking for some eps I noticed a new 100mm ED spotting scope made in China and sold within several brands being that there is one version with the wide-angled zoom similar to be APM SuperZoom (apparently based on the Meopta 2x zoom) eg 100 ED sptotting scope Anyone tried this version? The...

Using 2" XW 85º on Pentax scopes

For Pentax fans that would like to use the more recent XW 2" 85º eps: - probably is possible using a Baader Hyperion zoom 2.25x barlow, with a 2" to T ring adapter and a T to 1.25" male adapter (beware that it must be one with all interior with 1.25" filter female thread) - see an example with...

    NL >=50 mm versions?

Just remembered if Swarovski is planning a reply to Nikon WX50 within the 75th Anniversary? As would be for birding, the introduction of IS would be welcomed... ;)

    UTA 2x on spotting scopes?

Anyone is using the UTA 2x with a spotting scope? I have the 2.5x UTA, that I lent to someone that can improve CR resighting performance using it, but felt the 2.5x increase factor is not the best for my use UTA 2.5x test - have to update with several barlow cells I have presently... Meanwhile...

    Head for Swaro X115?

Just discovered that isn't possible to use both Manfrotto MVH502AH as MVH500AH with the X115 (without any extra pieces...). I appreciate any users experience with the X115 with compact but robust heads that can handle >6kg. Thanks.

Canon 18x50 IS: improving usability for eye-glass users and others

See CN post With this improvement, this binocular seems to work great for my cr-birding but I will write something comparing it to my Leica 15x56 Leica vs. Swaro within some weeks, after several days of field-work use... ;) I hope this can help others that use eye-glasses.

New STC56 used as a monocular?

After reading Swaro STC/ATC56 it occurred to me that the STC56 can be a great monocular for those that have problem in one of their eyes... See also my comments at #38... ;)

    6th Pan-European Duck Symposium - 19 to 23 September 2022, Coimbra - Portugal

PEDS6 - Portugal Tuesday will be the "observers day" and Thursday the "hunters day", with possibility of registration to only 1 day. A good opportunity to learn more about duck ecology and visit main duck wintering areas in Portugal. Webpage to be completed and updated during the next days but...

Anyone birding with 6" Ritchey-Chrétien Telescope 154/1370 mm?

Comparing it with a Celestron C5 or C6, has the advantage of being able to receive 2" astro eps, so increasing FOV and allowing wider AFOVs at lower mags. However the tube is opened and not sure how to clean the mirrors... Just imagined the use of one of these with the Nikon Nikon FSA-L2 and a...

APM Super Zoom vs. Baader Zoom

The APM zoom was waited for long time by the astro community and I was hoping that would be possible to reach focus on my Optolyth 100 - unfortunately it's not possible to reach focus neither with the Optolyth, neither with the Pentax PF100... However, is interesting for those birding with...

    Any BTX115 star-test

Until now I haven't seen a X115 star-test that doesn't show Spherical Aberration (SA) and that made think if the X115 was "tuned" to work with the BTX module, although using only 110mm aperture. So, someone did a star-test to a BTX115, with one or 2 extenders? The NL scope thread also made...

    Sony E 70-350mm zoom range

I decided to replace my E 55-210 by the 70-350mm since the first one wasn't really useful for me and the second isn't much expensive, is small and assumed as much sharper than the first, by reading some tests. Still didn't use it much but already allowed me to take some useful photos of a...

    Sony a6?00 4K video crop?

Is there any additional sensor crop when doing 4K videos compared to FHD? I saw different superzooms models that increase crop on 4K (so increasing mags) and others that reduce... I tested my a6000 and, against I was expecting, there is no crop when doing FHD videos.

The end of 18x50 and 15x50 is models?

When was searching for current prices of the 18x50 model I noticed isn't available worldwide. The end of this series or a production limitation? I would prefer an updated new line with >=56mm aperture...;)

    To BTX owners

Within my combo material tests with my X95, I found a way of "zooming" the BTX - one of the limitations it has for me is to not zoom... This can be achieved using a Siebert PMW within the lens module and the BTX module. For that, are needed 2 adapters: - one I already have - the one shown at X...

Tamron 150–500mm F5–6.7 Di III VC VXD

See DPreview I had reduced my "dilemma" to choose between the Sony FE 200-600mm and a super-zoom for video. Nice to have another option since I had decided to wait for the summer to do my next purchase - meanwhile I expect some Tamron reviews, although I think it competes more with the Sony FE...

    New spotting scope with binoviewer

At post 92 at CN Binoviewers is mentioned a new scope designed to use a binoviewer Orion Scope with BV . It will most probably be sold within other brands and will be available in Europe, but it uses a special binoviewer that is different from the "traditional", being that each ocular receives...

    Sony SEL 200-600 or a Super-zoom for 4K video

I have been considering to get a SEL 200-600 also for video (besides BIFs...), but recently have been close to some super-zoom owners that get reasonable BIFs, and I started to think that a Super-zoom not too large, as a Canon SX70, would be more useful and would save me money and gear volume to...

    Canon PowerShot Zoom

It's not a binocular and is a camera but I got curious if it would be useful for birding since can have 2x, 8x and, digitally, 16x stabilized. Not sure how the image quality of the viewfinder compares to an ocular of a binocular/monocular...

    FE100-400mm GM

For Sony E-mount users it's the best birding lens and decided to do a thread to call their attention - it's mentioned on the A9 thread but it deserves a specific one...;) I'm a a6000 user that probably never will invest on this lens since it's expensive and for my type of photo I would need to...
