Here's a few photos I've taken with the P5100 and the Nikon ED82 scope.

    Nikon ED82, what camera?

I use the P5100 with the 25-75x eye piece and find it to be perfect, even without the adapters.

    Magee Marsh bird ID's

You're right, there does appear to be some faint remenance of bay on the flanks.

    Magee Marsh bird ID's

I agree with Blackpoll and Herring Gull. Blackpoll because of the streaking on the back, faint streaks on the breast, and the fact there is a yellowish-greenish wash on the breast which becomes white near the belly and undertail coverts. On a Bay-breasted, you would expect a more uniform wash...

    US, NJ: Which Warbler?

    Looks like an Orange-crowned Warbler

Need confirmation on some ducks in So CA

Definitely disagree with Pintails for these guys. Nothing about them says Pintail to me. Pintails are leaner, grayer, and more elegant looking. They are paler in all plumages than the ducks pictured here. I like Green-winged Teal. As far as the size problem, I think its just that they are...

    EOS 7D Release Date

Anybody have an official release date? I preordered mine from Newegg in mid-September when the website said the release date was 10/01/09, then it got moved back to 10/09/09, and now today it just got moved back to 10/16/09. I also noticed that it still isn't available on Amazon.com. Some...

I agree with Solitary Sandpiper and Blue-gray Gnatcatcher.

    Sandpiper ID

This is a Buff-breasted Sandpiper. Nice find and photo.

    Hawk ID Texas

Juvenile Red-shouldered Hawk, based on the dark streaking of the breast and the lack of a dark leading edge.

Denver, CO - Can anyone tell me what bird this is by the song?

I want to say Hermit Thrush, but the first part of the first song is a little bizarre, and I'm not acquainted with all the possibilities of Western birds.

Small gray bird description, Michigan, USA

Catbird was the first thing that came to my mind, but you say she already vetoed it. Female Cowbird is a possibility, although it is more brown than gray.

Another Possible Harlan's Hawk from Oregon, USA

I can't say for sure since I live in the East and don't have any field experience with these birds, but I'll offer my opinion. I think this very well could be a Harlan's Hawk. The wings look too short and wide to be a dark morph Rough-legged and there appears to be an absence of a dark tail...

Need Help to Confirm this Bird - Florida

I agree with Lesser Scaup based on head shape and the size of the black tip on the bill.

Juve Gull ID Please-Central, MASS, USA

Yeah, looks like a Herring Gull to me.

    Two Birds to ID

The immature Purple Finches keep their plumage for 1 year so a male born last spring will look like nice and purple when it comes to your feeder next winter. The females remain brown.

    floridia vacation birds

I agree with Gull-billed Tern. The hawk is an immature Red-shouldered.

    Two Birds to ID

JMomOhio, The one you saw last year was an adult male. The Purple Finch you have this year is either a female or an immature male; they are difficult to distinguish. I'm leaning towards an immature male that's transitioning into adult plumage, due to the red you can see on its head in one of...

Assistance Request with ID of bird Country Unknown

Are you really sure this isn't a native bird? To me, it looks like it could be a Common Grackle, though a particularly glossy one.

Green-winged Teal? Texas Gulf Coast, USA

Yep, a male American Green-winged Teal.

Gull ID confirmation needed (Queens NY)...

Yes, this looks like an adult Lesser Black-backed. It has a fair amount of streaking on the neck and head and it is roughly the same size, if not smaller, then the Herring Gull behind it. Also, like you said, the legs are yellow.

    Flycatcher ID, Florida, USA

Yeah, Eastern Phoebe. Dark head and smudgy vest. You have good views of the dark undertail which rules out Ash-throated if there was ever any doubt.

Greater Scaup? 01/20/09 at the Ceres,CA STP

I agree with Lesser Scaup. The bird on the left in the second picture looks like the best angle to make this id. Scaup with their heads tucked in are always tough. It's always good to hold off jumping to a conclusion and trying to wait for a better view.
