    Epsom Common

    I try and get to Epsom / Ashtead Common once a fortnight if I can, though I am actually walking my dog... two birds and all that ;) Its a nice relaxing spot and does have varied habitats..... I like Horton park a smidgen better though for dog walks.. Good to see others enjoying local spots. Stu

    After visiting Thursley many times over the Winter, today I finally found the Shrike B (: Its double figures easily but I thought it was a larger bird, looked no bigger than a blackbird to me ! Had some great views while it hovered and swooped from the bircth trees here...

    as an update, I took a mobile phone recording of the lark I could not identify, played it back at home with my Birds CD in the PC and it matches a WoodLark. Isn't the modern age brilliant :) Stu

    Glorious weather, full sun and around 19 degrees with light breeze.. 5 Hobbys up at once in the sky, amazing views, Cuckoo heard, Redstarts in full song, Whitethroats, Stonechats, Curlew flight display over the marsh, Willow Warblers and Chiff Chaff, Buzzard, Kestrel, Green and Greater Spotted...

    Blackcap

    I was very pleased to see a male Blackcap in my garden for the first time today, let alone to see one in January ! It was feeding on bugs on my yet to be pruned Rose, I assumed it was my usual Goldcrest when I first saw the movement...a pleasent surprise. Stu
