    Binocular Sightings

Saturday on a tipical birding eventi in the North of Italy. About 40 birders. Impressive: every binocular 'top of the line" was a Swarovski. No Leica and no Zeiss spotted. In Italy Swarovski Is really monopolist

Montagu's or pallid harrier in Italy

I think Your are right. I've seen pictures of adult pallid harrier with pale spots but not so big like this bird. Now I believe that this is a 2cy of montagu's: my first idea!

Montagu's or pallid harrier in Italy

I see that the difficulties are a lot. For me the main problem is: is this bird an adult ora a 2cy? Because if we decide this, the solution would be quite easy

Montagu's or pallid harrier in Italy

Hi everyone. I have problems to identify this harrier. Photo taken in the end of April in Ustica (south Italy). At first I thought a 2cy female of MONTAGUS' but then I considered a light adult female of PALLID. Any opinion? Thanks! Marco

    Sykes's wagtail? North Italy

Hi everyobody, yesterday I saw a Citrine Wagtail in Monza, north Italy. A very rare bird, which was in the middle of other wagtails. One of these seems to me a ssp. Beema, called Sykes's warbler. What do you think about it? Thank You. Marco

possibile cretzschmar's bunting in Italy - 22.04.2012. Identification very difficult

I agree with you: I see this crafter too. Unfortunally there is no talk in italian mail in list about this bird. I'm really in doubt about it. Thank you for your help.

possibile cretzschmar's bunting in Italy - 22.04.2012. Identification very difficult

An italian birder said that it coul be an old ortolan bunting. Sometimes they lose colours and they get the head grey. But I wonder if an ortolan buntung could have these colours of the underparts, expecially of the upper tail coverts.

possibile cretzschmar's bunting in Italy - 22.04.2012. Identification very difficult

Thank You Sherpa. But the bird in the picture You have posted isn't a Grey Headed Bunting? I see grey scapulars...

possibile cretzschmar's bunting in Italy - 22.04.2012. Identification very difficult

Exactly, this one is really very similar to mine. I can't see very well with my actual monitor but maybe the bird You have posted is less grey in the head and the facial stripe is a little bit more colored (a very very light yellow). But it's the most similar bird to mine that I've ever seen in...

possibile cretzschmar's bunting in Italy - 22.04.2012. Identification very difficult

Thank You! But there is only a caracter that doesen't match: can a cretzschmar's have submustachial stripe, throat and lores whitish and not orange at all? For Collin's yes, but I couldn't find any picture of a bird like this. Thank You again!

possibile cretzschmar's bunting in Italy - 22.04.2012. Identification very difficult

Thank You: the picture that You have adjusted is almost perfect. Probably the bird was only a bit more brilliant, especially in the head that was a grey that was very visible and very different from any ortolan I ever seen, also in picture. No traces of any yellow and green tones. That's why I...

possibile cretzschmar's bunting in Italy - 22.04.2012. Identification very difficult

2nd and 4th pictures are saturated because strong light had really "killed" some colors. The bird was "two colored": grey and light orange/red. The ortolan next to this bird was a little bit closer

possibile cretzschmar's bunting in Italy - 22.04.2012. Identification very difficult

Hi everybody! In Italy a discussion of this identification has just started and I need your help. I had observed this bird 4 years ago, on 22.04.2012. It was tighter an ortolan bunting. The thing I noticed is that it appeared clearly different, with only grey and orange tones. No green or...

    pallid harrier? Italy

the 2 central feathers of the tail appeared darker but not moulted like this. It's a doubtful caracther because I'm note sure abuot this: I only remember that outher feathers were lighter and the tail appeared to me the tipical tail of an harrier. It wasn't moulted like the latter picture. I'm...

    pallid harrier? Italy

Thank's Tib78. I forgot to say that upperparts were concolor brown, without the tipical pattern of juveniles. Tail had the 2 central feathers dark. Is really possible to find a 2 cy montagu's like this?

    pallid harrier? Italy

Hello, today I've found an interesting pallid/ montagu's harrier. This is what I've looked: - concolor orange-light brown belly and breast, without any streaking; - very dark secondaries; - no dark trailing edge on underwing; - showing pictures I notice that primaries are only little dark...

    Collared Flycatcher? North Italy

I also posted the pictures on an italian forum and there is an interesting discussion about this bird. Absolutely not sure it's a collared. Now the option "pied flychatcer" is growing! I hope that experts will take part at this discussion
