    Leica 8x32 BA rainguard fyi

FYI, the Zeiss 8x30 SFL rainguard fits my Leica 8x32 BA fairly well. It's not very tight, but will not come off due to it's own weight.

    Zeiss USA service - SFL

Sent my 8x40SFLs in on Jan 30 to repair a very stiff focus wheel. Got a new replacement pair today, Feb 10. Nice to have a new pair, but somewhat disappointing that the focus wheel issue on the original pair wasn't, or couldn't, be addressed.

    Kowa TSN-88 tweaks

Apparently Kowa has updated the TSN-88 with a new body style (ala TSN-99) and some new coatings : Kowa engineers have improved the unique optical coatings applied not only to the lenses but also the prism in the new TSN-88 PROMINAR spotting scope series. The result is a spotting scope that...

Kowa TSN-99X satisfies my favorite kink...

which is an immovable interface between the scope and plate. In addition to the 1/4"-3/8" mounting socket, anti-rotation hole and anti-rotation slot, the 99X foot has a SECOND 1/4"-3/8" mounting socket allowing the use of 2 screws to lock the plate down. This scope should work great on my...

FYI - Replacement cap for 20-70x eyepiece

The included 48mm eyepiece cap that came with my Meopta S2 20-70x eyepiece often falls off. Kaiser's 47mm cap works as a replacement. It's rather snug, but doesn't take too much force to put on. I imagine the Schneider-Kreuznach 47mm works as well.

    Positive Zeiss USA Service Experience

My Zeiss 10x32FLs with a quite stiff focus wheel (came that way new) were sent to Kentucky and returned to me within 2 weeks with the focus wheel turning smoothly and easily.

    Opticron MM3 60mm Stay-on Case...

Those looking for such a case may want to consider the Vortex Diamondback 60mm case (VD60, $49). I've just acquired the scope (w/HDF zoom) and was looking for a stay-on case. Initial reviews of the Opticron case had fairly dismal opinions. Despite that I ordered the Opticron ($79) case...

    Sirui VH-10

There was some discussion of the Sirui VH-10 in this thread: http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=284919 Just thought I'd create this new thread to update my experience and for future reference for those interested in the VH-10. In the above thread I mentioned that my first copy of the...

Some issues with the Kite/Skua ATX 95 case

This case is a bit of a disappointment, although I think I will keep it. 1. The design of the ocular and objective covers has a MAJOR design flaw. There are pieces of neoprene fabric sandwiched together and glued to the inside of each cover. Presumable this is to protect the glass from...

FYI Re: Manfrotto MVH500AH - USA $40 Rebate

Nearing the acquisition of the Swaro ATX 95mm, I've been shopping for the appropriate appurtenances (stay-on case and new head). Quickly found that the Manfrotto MVH500AH has a $40 rebate in the US through August. Final price is $113.88 at some camera shops. The big river has priced the...

Happy New Year from Swarovski Optik

Just got off the phone with a retailer...looks like SO is ringing in the new year with a little price increase (+$80 to $2,429 for the 8.5s). Some websites already have the new prices. Perhaps if you make a purchase in the next few hour at the sites with the old price you might save a few $...

SO 8.5x42 EL SV Diopter issue???

Is my memory correct in that there was some sort of diopter problem with early SV bins? I've re-scoured the threads, but can't find anything. I've recently acquired a demo pair for review and it seems like there is some focus lag (or something akin to that) in the right barrel. Its been...

Awww...crap. Anyone have a spare 10x50EL free to a good home???

Be forewarned, this post is somewhat long and convoluted, and probably has little useful info for any of you. With the significant price increase of the alphas a few years ago I managed to successfully kick the habit of nursing the bin upgrade bug and settled in with my pre-lotuTec 8x42 FLs...
