Losing Bluebirds boxes nesting to Sparrows and Wrens

You bring up an interesting point. This year I have continued to feed the birds longer, probably due to a wetter spring and trying to use up my feed. Usally once the bugs come out I stop feeding except for an occasional suet bar. Just wondering if I've held the other birds in to long. It's been...

Losing Bluebirds boxes nesting to Sparrows and Wrens

I have two Bluebird boxes which I've seen taken over by Wrens and Sparrows. I have had bluebirds in them for years. The bluebirds started out in the boxes and were pushed out. Now the Bluebirds have left I don't see them anymore. Any strategies to free up the boxes again? I cleaned the one box...

    Sparrow? US, Mid Atlantic

Hello, I am wondering if this is a common sparrow. Located in mid Atlantic, Maryland, spring time. It was rather large not the size I usually see in sparrows. Seemed twice the size. The color pattern looked to be different also. The picture isn't the greatest because I edited it a bit to get...

    ID a small raptor

Thank you birdmeister. Almost certain it is one. I was pulling for the Chickadee. It was a fast frantic chase that the Sharp Shinned Hawk gave up on.

    ID a small raptor

Sangahyando, Thank you for responding. I believe you are correct. After looking at images and reading descriptions on the Sharp Shinned Hawks as you said it sounds spot on. The colors reminded me of a Coopers Hawk with the gray/blue top and light underneath but it is a much much smaller bird...

I think your right. Tundra Swans from Canada. Looked at some pictures and migration routes which takes them right over central Maryland to the eastern shore and Carolinia's.

    Large White Birds?

I live in central Maryland and just walked outside (3pm EST)and heard a strange sound way off. Didn't know what it was until it got closer and I realized it was high up in the air. Two very large birds, I'm thinking close to a 6' wing span because they were very high up but easily visible. I...

    Nesting Hawk

Hi, new to the forum. We have a nesting pair of hawks in an oak tree about 100' off the ground. Very noisy. I have looked in books and can not identify the birds. Not sure if this helps. I have feeders that are visited by squirrels and various birds that don't seem to be bothered by the hawks...
