    Return migration already!!

    Seems like the first returning migrants are heading back south. A few Red-necked Phalaropes going thru'. The first returning Spotted Redshank went thru' Cheshire this week. CB

    Signs of spring

    Its a cold February morning here in Cheshire but despite this there are signs of spring on my morning walk. A Mistle Thrush singing its heart out until disturbed by a nearby pair. Several Chaffinches have started singing also. Neither is particularly early but still welcome! CB

    Starlings on the move?

    Has anyone noticed any large Starlling movements/influxes recently? Today I was out in the peak district and I came across two massive flocks feeding in the moors. Never seen so many away from roosting sites. CB

    Glossy Ibis at Dunham Massey

    imm Glossy Ibis on the flooded field just opposite the Swan with Two Nicks pub, near Dunham Massey. Present for second day at least. Flew off at 4.15pm then circled for 25 mins before heading SE towards Rostherne Mere and being lost from view. CB

    Large numbers of Redwings passing over Cheshire today including 1000 at Leasowe, 750 at Hoylake, 300 at Woolston Eyes, 300 over New Brighton, 350 over West Kirby, 250 over Newton and 100 at Alsager; Anyone else got big counts? CB

    Skylark passage?

    Did anyone else notice a significant passage of Skylarks overhead today? On my inland patch in Cheshire I had my largest ever day count. Carsington Water in North Derbyshire also noted a good movement. CB
