    Northumbrian Birding

The Dowitchers flew right overhead as I was leaving, which was nice. ps: well done to the finders, they deserve something after a weeks worth of effort in less than favourable conditions this week.

Ah yes, the UK400 rules as suspected.

    Northumbrian Birding

I've forgotten how entertaining BF can be - they've all come out of the woodwork for that thread. The best quote for me is the one whose says Garry should have saved some of his twitching budget and bought a new stair carpet. Priceless. I see Garry's 500th British Bird was the Indian House...

    Northumbrian Birding

People that are obsessed with their end total. Rocking up to birds that others have found, waiting for it to show before ticking it and moving onto the next. People who aren't always sufficiently clued up on what it is they're looking at. Ticking birds that aren't classed as full species...

What's the greater crime - driving while using your mobile or acting like a love sick teenager, hanging on LGRE's every word and whim.

Thanks for the gen. I'll pick up a Northern India guide I reckon. Cheers Alan ps: Microtus - no problem.

    Indian Fieldguides?

I already did but they didn't answer my question about whether Kanha & Bandhavgar are covered by the Northern Guide. Thanks all the same

    Indian Fieldguides?

I'm off to India next February and I'm suffering the usual quandry of what fieldguide to buy. We're concentrating on Ranthambore, Bandhavgarh and Kanha NPs. I know Delhi & Ranthambore will be covered by the Northern Guide but are the latter NPs covered in the Northern Guide or the Southern...

    Northumbrian Birding

I went for it this evening and dipped by 10 minutes or so. Last seen (we think) flying off strongly North from Bellasis Bridge nr Blagdon. Its blinged up with a ring and a tracking aerial on it's back - from the latest UK scheme perhaps? I can't say I was too disappointed (was more bothered...

Can anyone help? A mate of mine has a Kowa TSN-1 and is looking for stay on case for it. Does anyone know where he can get one from, second hand or otherwise? Thanks in advance Alan

    Wheatears Egypt april 2009

Out of interest, why is Mourning Wheatear ruled out? Its more likely in Egypt as it's a resident breeder, whereas Pied must only be a passage migrant.

    Northumbrian Birding

Snide Comments For clarification the comment referred to above is: ''What's a Honey Buzzard doing on the Northumberland coast after persistant Westerlies. In fact, on second thoughts, lets not go there.'' Just to clarify that the comment was an attempt (a failed one it seems?) at...

    Northumbrian Birding

We could be here a while :) Organised flushes allow birders to see birds that have travelled long distances, often way off their expected course, and are tired and should ideally be given time to rest, feed and recover. The alternative would be for everyone to do their own thing and that would...

    Northumbrian Birding

Personally I can't see whats 'great' about someone pressing 'play' on a cd player to tape lure a bird - whether we're in the breeding season or otherwise? Keeping a safe distance, applying some basic fieldcraft, and waiting patiently for the bird to reveal itself naturally - that would...

Coming soon - the X3 pager

I'm an existing RBA subscriber currently paying for one channel. To upgrade to the X3 I need to pay the £25 upgrade (fine with that) but then I have to up my monthly subs to cover off paying for 2 channels when all I care about is the 1 channel I'm currently with. So, no-brainer for me - I'll...

    Day trip to Norfolk/Suffolk

I'm heading down there on Friday (19th June) for a couple of nights, staying near Fakenham. Whats my chances of the Orioles at Lakenheath and the Stone Curlews at Weeting Heath? I'll also be looking at Salthouse & Kelling Heath for Dartford Warbler & Nightingale and Woodlark anywhere I can -...

    Springwatch 2009

I like the idea of that - a look at widllife as it changes across the season rather than compressed into a 2 week period.

    Springwatch 2009

I may have mentioned that earlier in this thread. Hows about: 'Some Gulls Are Bigger Than Others' ?
