Wow! With 40 odd hours left, what realistic targets does Olaf have left to tie on 777? A big risk trip to the Aleutians/Alaska for wildfowl? Does John still have any gaps on the list to put it beyond doubt?

One point on Hawaii is that it is a full state (#50 having joined in 1959) whereas the others are territories.

Indeed. Pied Wagtail wouldn't have been high on my list of birds to be found in North America, considering the small range and mainly sedentary population (though some do winter outside of Britain and Ireland).

Interesting wagtail record from New Hampshire earlier this month: http://ebird.org/ebird/nh/view/checklist?subID=S32344508 Would this be the first Pied Wagtail (M. a. yarrellii) for the ABA area?

Very good map of >Code 2 bird sightings in the US and Canada, as well as Hawaii: http://kiwifoto.com/rba/plot.php An unconfirmed report of Common Scoter in QC is interesting. Edit: Scoter appears to be data entry error.

I wonder if John or Olaf will take a punt to stake out the Hummer feeder in West Texas for the first Amethyst-throated Hummingbird in the US seen there yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAAXKSsKKPk

The main reason I asked re Greenland was that is not currently covered by either the ABA area or the WP. I am sure there must be endless discussions amongst Greenlandian birders about whether they would rather be in the WP or ABA areas :)

Will Greenland be considered as well? Or is that in ABA area already?

I think someone posted it a while ago, but what "unique" species have Olaf and John seen (i.e seen by one but not the other so far)?

Great, thanks. First passage Buff-breasted Sandpipers beginning to turn up in the mid west: http://ebird.org/ebird/map/bubsan?neg=true&env.minX=&env.minY=&env.maxX=&env.maxY=&zh=false&gp=false&ev=Z&mr=6-7&bmo=6&emo=7&yr=cur

http://brucemactavish1.blogspot.co.uk/2016/07/common-swift-at-cape-race-newfoundland.html Update by Bruce MacTavish on the recent Common Swift at Cape Race. Interestingly, there is a comment relating to another Common Swift found in Montreal in 2007, which was identified as a Chimney Swift at...

By way of contrast, Olaf has added 3 species this month while John has managed to add 19. Even in June, John was way ahead, adding 61 to Olaf's 34. An interesting comparison in strategy and rewards between "quick starter" Olaf and "tortoise" John.

Looking at recent reports, Vancouver may be a good option for John. Vaux's and Black Swift + Bairds Sandpiper reported from there in the last few days. Spruce Grouse and Grey Partridge also seen a couple of hours drive east of Vancouver, which would bring the total to 749 (?) in a best case...

Skylark is an introduced resident on Vancouver island so should be gettable if he is visiting Seattle/Washinton state. Edit: Unless there is a genuine vagrant as well?
