Don't you just love accidental birding? Popped over to Blithfield for my lunch break and was greeted by hundreds of Swallows and 3 Swifts! A text from Roger then put me on to the possibility of a little gull off beechtree point. A quick check produced 2 adults and a first summer along with...

I'm sticking my head in to the lion's mouth by saying this, so I hasten to add that this does not apply to everyone, but I've encountered a few birders in the moorlands who I would struggle to believe... Having said that I hope the news is true, Marsh Harriers seem to be few and far between...

Apologies for lateness, it was mine (and a mates)! The bird was perched briefly in a tall birch in the north sherbrook and flew north and lost to view over the hill. Had a quick look but couldn't see it afterwards.

I'll be down there before dawn to have a good scan around. Just hoping that the fox doesn't push it off over night. However if it does, perhaps Doxey might be worth a check as the bird will see the lakes reflecting the light and perhaps head straight up and straight down? If you need to get...

Calling all birders! During 2012 West Midland Bird Club are conducting the next Cannock Chase survey, which is done every 5 years. This year the task of co-ordinating the job has fallen to me. I'm looking to recruit as many volunteers as possible to carry out the survey across the AONB area...

That is because SWT rent the building from the local authority / british waterways purely as a cafe and office premesis, and we have no responsibility for the nature reserve. There is a 'friends of' group being established from westport which I believe will do some work around the nature...

If you're going to have a pop at us, at least have the courtesy to get the full picture. Croxall - The new access arrangements do include a walk down to the river, but you won't be able to walk along with river bank and there will be a fenced path back down the side of the railway. This new...

I basically went on the fact to me it looked like a Common Sand, except its breast appeared densely streaked like a Pec, but looked like it was wearing a white tie and was rather annoyed looking head on with the supercilium almost meeting on the forehead. Lovely bird, shame it was so far away...

The bird was seen by one of our Wardens on his way home. His first thought was Magpie, but as he got closer he realised it was a Shrike sp. I've presumed Great Grey for the comparison to Magpie. Not sure if Lesser is a bit small but worth checking out perhaps?
