Having been ravaged elsewhere I thought I would hide here instead. For all you crossword lovers here's a few clues I have made up, all are British Birds (so no definition in the clue)

1) Nasty penis (5)

2) R (8)

3) Increase and injure (7)

4) Pair of eggs without sauce? Obviously excellent starters (6)

5) Allowed pub to be built inside (6)

See how you get on with those

Well done, yes if you wing someone you injure them.

Okay some more

Part of the Soviet Air Force? (7)

Caught holding a pair (4)

Dis or dat (5) (I confess I have adapted a DT clue here)

If able to, muck about on the radio (8)

Picnic? (9)

Sure R = the letter that starts the word red, so red start

And in crossword terms an egg = O, so a pair of eggs = OO
Without in crossword terms = opposite of within, it doesn't mean taken away. so in this case the sauce = HP (as in the fantastic brown sauce) is without = outside the eggs, so put HP outside OO to give HOOP. Then 'starters' normally means the beginning of the words = O for obviously and E for excellent, so add those on = H OO P O E = Hoopoe

Contrived or what!!

Still drawing a blank on these but since there can't be many 5 letter birds to choose from I think Robin is worth a shot...

Please don't kill me....

Dis or dat = Eider (this or that, either with a speethe inpethdiment)

The other is Woodlark (on the radio means 'sounds like' so wood = would, etc)

How about this:

Posh person comes back; after ten that is (6)
