Swankyspoons 2014 Maryland List (1 Viewer)

Soldiers Delight

April 26, 2014

#76 Hermit Thrush
#77 Eastern Towhee (Heard only - usually want to see it to list if for year, but I'm comfortable with this one).

The group also heard a Louisiana Waterthrush - but in most cases I'd want to see a lifer to list it.

#148 Purple Finch B :) A lovely Female.

When I started this year, I was hoping to see 135 species in MD. Now, I would really love to see 150 in MD this year. It's just a number, but it would be a such a nice number for this novice birder after so many wonderful birding adventures this year. There are a number of birds I 'should' have seen this year, but missed. Of the ones that are still on the table in November, the easiest misses are Pileated Woodpecker, Winter Wren, and Peregrine Falcon. So here's hoping I get 2 of the 3, or - even better - something rarer.

Great Day Yesterday - when I chased down to rarities reported at Centennial Park...

# 149 Surf Scoter B :)
# 150 (!) Ross's Goose B :)

#151 Red-Headed Woodpecker B :)

And this means...I now have all seven Maryland woodpeckers on my my Maryland list (the last accepted Red-Cockaded Woodpecker was seen forty years ago, so it doesn't count....)

Still, Pileated has been a frustrating miss on my 2014 list...
