Hi there,

My wife is a wildlife bird reabber who has had some problems with 3 wrens that she has brought up to the point of almost being released when all of a sudden 2 of them were unable to stand on their feet. After taking one of the birds to a vet he suggested vitamines because he felt they were having muscular problems. A week and a half later they are still down. After talking to another rehabber who also had the same problems with wrens and kildeer babies, she had no suggestions.

Are there any rehabbers out there that can help suggest any treatment? She doesn't know I am asking questions on the Internet. I am just trying to help.

Thanks,

Dan

Hello Dan and on behalf of the staff here at Bird Forum, a warm welcome to you.

Sounds as though your wife has her work cut out for her. The symptoms you present do not bode well for the poor wrens. Are they being given some sort of vitamin supplement?

Hopefully, one of our members more knowledgeable in this field will be along shortly and may be able to offer some suggestions.

I have worked with wildlife for four years now and in my experience raising killdeer babies is very difficult. They are suceptible to muscular and joint problems if kept on improper substrate. Never worked with wrens so cant help you there. My next guess would be that their diet was lacking in protein or calcium, what have they been fed?
