I'm going to Florida this weekend, and I'd like to know the best birding hotspots. I'm especially looking for Burrowing Owl, Crested Caracara, and shore/wading bird locations.

Too bad I didn't discover this thread until Saturday night however the information I have might be of value to you for your next trip.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has a program, Great Florida Birding Trail, which publishes a biannual news letter for birders, you can go to their website and read this on line.

My trips to Florida are to the southwest Florida area, Ft. Myers and Naples, and wildlife areas I always go to are Corkscrew Swamp, Naples, Ding Darling on Sanibel Island west of Ft. Myers, Lovers Key State Park at Ft. Myers Beach, and Six Mile Slough, Ft. Myers amongst other places. These are my favorites.

The wildlife refuge at Ding Darling on Sanibel Island and Corkscrew Swamp are two that you do not want to miss... Lovers Key and Ding Darling are the places for shore birds and as for burrowing owls, they are all over the place. Cape Coral, across the river from Ft. Myers, has a support organization for the Burrowing Owls in their community, http://www.ccfriendsofwildlife.org/ and you can find the locations of owls on this web page.

If you go to this next web page, I believe you will find all the information you are looking for:
