Hello,

I've had this scope a long time. I've used it from various locations where I lived. I'm curious if anyone knows anything about these scopes. It's been in the family for 40 years.

Thank You, Chris

Hi,

wow, now this is an interesting old brass scope! The company was founded in 1865 in Milan by a certain Ignazio Porro, inventor of the image erecting prisms of the same name as a kind of a university lab workshop.
It was later turned into a for profit mechanical and optical enterprise by his student Angelo Salmoiraghi producing scientific instruments, sewing machines and optics.
In the 30s it was nationalized by the fascist regime into IRI and used for war production.
Nowadays the name Salmoiraghi & Vigano is still being used but only eyeglasses and contact lenses are being made.

Astonomical telescopes from Filotecnica sometimes turn up, see https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/208135-restoration-of-a-5125mm-salmoiraghi-refractor/ and http://www.refractorland.org/instruments/Salmoiraghi.htm

And here's what looks like a later version of your model http://www.monocular.info/filo15x20x40x.htm

Can you post a few more pictures, especially of any inscriptions?

Joachim

Hi falconxx there was an interesting Italian, Galileo marked, 90mm binocular with triplet eyepiece turrets at an ex Gov. U.K. auction.
My friend bought the broken tripod, but not the binocular unfortunately.
The binocular looked very interesting.

What is the name on the back of the unusual pattern circular rug?

Thanks

Thanks for all of the information. I uploaded a couple more pictures. It's approx. a 100mm objective.
