Retired molecular biologist with lots of time to watch the birds. Recently viewed what I think is a sharp shinned hawk with a kill. Would like some help with the ID.

If you have a photo of your hawk, or can describe it in fairly good detail, as Beverly said posting it in the Bird ID/Taxon Q&A forum will undoubtedly nail the ID for you.
