Hi everybody,

Can you please confirm that both birds are Buteo buteo vulpinus - Steppe Buzzard?

First picture dating from 13 Dec 2008 - Nairobi area
Second picture dating from 20 Dec 2010 - Nairobi area

I'd say yes at first, but especially juveniles are tricky to separate from local Mountain Buzzard.

I would agree with Valéry though I would not give a 100% certain statement on the first bird.

And by the way, the IBC really need to correct its Mountain buzzard page: almost half of the material proposed (pics and videos) features juvenile Augur buzzard instead of Moutain buzzard!!!

Yeah, first bird is really the typical juvenile matching both species... slight rufous tinge on the mantle probably better for vulpinus but...
